Michael Weyman (born 13 September 1984) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer for the St. George Illawarra Dragons of the National Rugby League. A New South Wales State of Origin representative front row forward, he also previously played club football with the Canberra Raiders before moving to the Dragons with whom he won the 2010 NRL Premiership.He is the brother of Tim Weyman

Playing career

While attending Carroll College in 2001 and Erindale College in 2002, Weyman was selected to play for the Australian Schoolboys team and was captain of the team.[1][2]

He was selected in the Junior Kangaroos (Under 19s) in 2002 and 2003, and played for NSW U19s in 2003.

Weyman was suspended for six weeks in 2008 when he punched Titans' (now Roosters) forward Daniel Conn, breaking Conn's nose and leading the media to brand Weyman as a "thug".[3][4] The incident was the low-point of Weyman's 2008 season and he played only seven NRL matches for the Raiders in the year.[4] Weyman and Conn went head to head again in the 2010 NRL Grand Final; ironically this time Conn went on report for a late shot on Weyman in the first half.

Although offered a one-year extension by the Raiders, Weyman announced in May 2008 that he had accepted a two-year contract with St. George Illawarra from 2009.[4][5] He played in the 2010 NRL Grand Final which the Dragons won, 32-8, over the Sydney Roosters.

Representative career

Weyman was selected for Country in the City vs Country match on 8 May 2009.[6]

In May 2009 Weyman was named in the 17 man squad to represent New South Wales in the opening State of Origin game of the 2009 series.[7] Weyman made his Origin debut on 3 June 2009, in Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

Weyman missed the final game of the Origin series with an ankle injury, which the Blues won. In effect, he has never played in a NSW Origin winning team.

In 2010 he was selected in the Australian test team to play New Zealand in April[8] He also played State of Origin Game I-II. He was suspended for a spear tackle on Wade Mckinnon against the Wests Tigers in round 16. This suspension ruled him out of Origin III
